14. Chief Negative Features (obstacles)

The concept of “chief negative features” refers to habitual ways we learn to protect ourselves and defend ourselves from experiencing that which we fear.

We learn these fear-based, self-protective habits during childhood and “lock-onto” one or two ways of protecting ourselves by the time we reach young adulthood.

Fear is very natural and useful!  This instinctive mechanism is used to help keep the body and personality from harm’s way.  However, by the time we reach young adulthood, most of us are using these chief feature mechanisms far more than is actually useful.  We learn to use them in anticipation of threatening experiences, rather than in the midst of a truly threatening experience.  We use them due to many more imagined fears than actual, real, in-the-moment threats to our survival.

Also, it is true that we may have needed some of these protective strategies when we were younger and less equipped to handle some of the complex challenges of life.  But as we grow in age and consciousness, we have much more capacity to meet the challenges and complexity of life with creative response instead of reactionary defense.

As we grow and mature, the chief features become more and more of a stumbling block or obstacle to experiencing wholeness an fulfillment.

They block our experience of wholeness and fulfillment by keeping us locked in narrow ways of processing and interpreting the events of our lives.  In Michael-speak, they keep us locked in our NEGATIVE POLES.

In and of themselves, the negative poles of personality are neither “good” nor “bad”.  They are simply the parts of us that can focus, dissect, narrow-down, make distinctions and focus on more of the concrete reality and details of life.  Our negative poles allow us to deal with the “nitty-gritty” of physical plane reality, but they also emphasize a sense of exclusion and separation.

The problem is not with the negative poles.  The problem is getting stuck in the negative poles so that we have little access to the bigger picture, which is represented by our POSITIVE POLES.

The positive poles are the parts of us that are always open to receive new information about experience and continually update our perspective.  These parts of us see the bigger picture and tend to be far more expansive and abstract.  The perspective here is broad and amplifies a sense of inclusion and unity.

The chief features keep us stuck in our negative poles and distort our perception of reality. They block new information and keep us locked in the maya and illusion of our own fragile reality.  Ego is one term for this part of who we are.  Michael more often uses the term FALSE PERSONALITY to describe this state of fearful consciousness.

The compliment to false personality is on the other side of the spectrum: TRUE PERSONALITY.  We experience true personality when we are experiencing life from our positive poles.  And this is also how we are able to experience and “manifest” our essences.  To manifest essence means to experience TRUTH, LOVE and ENERGY, as well as every other inner resource we could ever need in order to navigate life with security, enthusiasm and confidence.

Judging by the above descriptions, it might seem as though we should always aim for being in our positive poles as much as possible!  But Michael teaches that we are not designed to only experience our positive poles.  We are designed to experience a spectrum of experience.  They teach that the positive poles actually INCLUDE the negative poles.  So, when one is balanced in ones being, one has constant access to their higher perspective while they tend to the mundane realities of life.  The WHOLENESS comes from the capacity to be fluid and able to navigate both ends of the spectrum from negative to positive and everything in between.

All this is to say that the chief negative features inhibit our awareness of our essence or higher self. When we are totally entrenched in these fear patterns, we have little access to our essences’ wisdom, insight, love, creativity, encouragement, comfort, healing, inspiration, enthusiasm, forgiveness, clarity, vitality, etc.

For those that seek to be less unconscious/reactive/asleep and more conscious/responsive/awake in life, the only pathway is through becoming aware of, understanding and being able to set-aside the chief negative features.

The chief negative features tell LIES, and to live a more fulfilled life, you have to get beyond them to the TRUTH.

There are 7 chief negative features and they all want to protect us from life experiences that are quite natural:

Chief features that seek to protect us from the natural realities of EXISTING/BEING (self-esteem issues)

SELF-DEPRECATION (-self-absement/+humilty) defends against fear of being invisible or not being seen clearly/fear of being seen and judged as inadequate

ARROGANCE (-vanity/+pride) defends against fear of being seen too clearly/fear of being seen and judged as too much

Chief features that seek to protect us from the natural realities of DESIRES/HAVING (self-worth issues)

SELF-DESTRUCTION (-suicide/+sacrifice) defends against fear of having too much/fear of not being worth what one has

GREED (-gluttony/+appetite) defends against fear of not having enough/fear of never having enough of what one wants/needs

Chief features that seek to protect us from the natural realities of the PHYSICAL PLANE (control issues)

MARTYRDOM (-victimization/selflessness+)  defends against the fear of losing control of space and the environment

IMPATIENCE (-intolerance/+audacity) defends against the fear of losing control of time/fear of wasting time

Chief feature that seeks to protect us from the natural realities of CHANGE (fear of the unknown)

STUBBORNNESS (-obstinancy/determination+)  defends against the fear of change, new experiences and the unknown

I will use one of my own chief features to help explain how they work.

My primary chief feature is IMPATIENCE.  This protective mechanism seeks to defend against my fear of losing control of TIME.

I could immediately validate this chief feature!  In the past, I could drive myself and everyone else crazy with my impatient explosions.

Until I did some investigation into the lies of this chief feature, I always had this vague fear of losing control of time, that I had to do everything NOW, or else I would soon run out of time.  The slightest delay or breakdown could send me into an inner rage that I could barely keep from erupting all around me.

And my goal in life is to FLOW and experience PEACE and FREEDOM.  This habit of reacting with impatience to every unexpected delay effectively distorted the reality of peace and freedom that was always available to me.

Impatience would lie and make promises that never came true, making me believe that there was always a clock to race against and that if I would just rush and hurry enough, then I could somehow get it all done and free up my time to experience that peace and freedom for which I longed.  But I could never get it done fast enough, as there would always be something else to do!

The impatience promised that somehow I could control time.  It was a lie.

The truth is that I can only control how I choose to relate to the passing of time.  Another truth is that the impatient reactions actually increase the time it takes for me to do things.  Yet another truth is that the impatience feels awful inside my body and makes everyone around me very uncomfortable.

It is very difficult to extinguish a chief feature completely, and when you remove yourself from the grips of one, there is a tendency to take on another!  Still, one can become aware of the chief features and learn to set them aside so that one can respond more consciously to fear.

Though I still experience impatience, I am very much aware of whenever it rears its ugly head, and I am able to breathe through it and set it aside so that I can get back to experiencing my flow, peace and freedom.

I have been able to see the truth that most of the time when I am not able to accomplish a goal as quickly as I would like, my life is not actually in jeopardy, and the only thing keeping me from experiencing the fulfillment of flow, peace and freedom is my own reactions in the moment.

Validation of your chief features is quite an empowering step towards freeing yourself from unconscious and reactionary behavior.  On the other side of this is the growing capacity to consciously co-create a more fulfilling life with essence, a life that is full of love, peace, joy, security, prosperity and every other good thing you can imagine.

I hope you have gained some useful insights from this basic breakdown of the information that you will receive in your Michael Profile.  In time, I will go into much more detail about every profile element mentioned in this 4-part series.

Michael Profile: Personality Dynamics (Part III)

(approximate reading time 10-15mins )

Essence needs personality-needs YOU.  Personality is the vehicle for essence to experience the physical plane.  It has no access to the wonders of the physical plane without a body and personality.  It needs body/personality’s eyes to see, ears to hear, hands to touch, tongue to taste and nose to smell.  Physical incarnations allow the soul to evolve and remember itself and others.

The personality is an extension of essence.  Truly, they are not separate, but technically, they are different.  Personality does not give rise to the essence.  It is the other way around.

This vehicle of personality consists of a body and a moving center, emotions and an emotional center and thoughts and an intellectual center.  It also comes equipped with an instinctive center that is like the floppy disk on which all of its experiences are recorded from one lifetime to the next.

Each center of moving, emotional and intellectual also has a “higher” counterpart that is managed by essence: the higher moving (energy or beauty), higher emotional (love) and higher intellectual (truth).

Essence designs each personality before each lifetime.  The older the soul, the more adept it becomes at designing personalities so that they will be more likely to embrace their own soul essence and invite the essence to participate and help in the creation of the life.

Another way of looking at these design elements is to see the personality as a mirror image or physical reflection of the soul, reflecting the soul’s intentions and ideals for any given lifetime.

9. Goal
The goal in these teachings represents the original intention behind the lifetime.  It is connected to the ACTION axis and therefore underlies all of our decisions and choices.  Why do we do what we do?  What are we seeking?  What are we aiming for?  What is our motivation?  What are we learning about?  For insights into these questions, we can look to the goal.

The goal also includes our life-task, which is a more specific aspect of the goal.  One would never have a life-task that is in conflict with their goal.

There are 7 fundamental goals or aims available for any given lifetime:

Inspiration Goals
RE-EVALUATION (aiming to focus the life contexts and understand what has come before)
GROWTH (aiming to broaden the life contexts and comprehend more)

Expression Goals
DISCRIMINATION (aiming to refine the life choices and say “no” and mean it)
ACCEPTANCE (aiming to include all life choices and say “yes” and mean it)

Action Goals
SUBMISSION (aiming to focus one’s actions into contexts where they can be received)
DOMINANCE (aiming to broaden one’s actions into contexts of leadership for self and others)

Assimilation Goal
FLOW/RELAXATION (aiming to be “goal-less,” to relax, to flow and experience peace and freedom)

Validating my goal was a big one for me.  Most of my life, due to imprinting, I thought I needed to be a leader in some way, to direct myself and others masterfully (dominance).  It wasn’t until I began to get to know my true personality (my personality as it was designed by essence), that I began to realize that I actually yearned for peace and freedom to simply BE.  The path of dominance was what others may have wanted for me, and what I may have assumed was needed of me.  But it wasn’t what I was truly aiming for.  Trying to be in dominance did not help me to understand my deepest motivations and the patterns of my life.

Being in flow/relaxation did.  I can barely express the relief that grew in me as I came to embrace my actual goal in life.  It helped me understand my deepest longings and choose with more consciousness those paths and directions that could truly bring me fulfillment.

The goal doesn’t necessarily come easy!  I had to learn to relax and flow.  And I am still learning.  But I am far better at it now than before.

Also, everything can be described as a spectrum ranging from negative (emphasizing separation and exclusion) to positive (emphasizing oneness and inclusion).

The negative pole of flow/relaxation is stagnation or inertia, while the positive pole is free-flowing, peace and freedom.

Before I learned to relax and flow, I spent much of my younger years running, running, running, like a hamster in a wheel, trying my best to create fulfillment but getting nowhere.  There was often allot of activity but no real progress.  And I often felt like giving up altogether!  I was spinning my wheels, and it was exhausting.

For me, “giving up” and letting myself possibly be “the failure” was actually what helped me to begin to relax and flow.  As I embraced my goal of flow/relaxation, I began to experience the peace and freedom for which I had always been searching.

The goal represents the type of fulfillment we seek in life.  When we validate it and embrace it, we are able to experience a deep soul fulfillment.  Then, it can feel like our life comes into alignment with a deeper sense of purpose.  We make our decisions and choices from this place of consciousness, and the life begins to unfold in much more pleasurable ways.

10. Mode
Whereas the goal is connected to action and our moving centers, the mode is connected to INSPIRATION and our emotions.  It describes our most basic way of RELATING to our goal, and it describes our primary mode of operation through which we reach our goal.

Through our mode, we relate to the goal, ourselves, others and all of life.

How do we reach our goal?  Again, there are 7 fundamental ways of reaching the goal:

Inspiration Modes
RESERVE (relating through refining the emotions, -inhibition and/or +restraint)
PASSION (relating through freeing the emotions, -identification and/or +self-actualization)

Expression Modes
CAUTION (relating through refining the thoughts, -phobia and/or +deliberation)
POWER (relating through freeing the thoughts, -oppression and/or +authority)

Action Modes
PERSEVERANCE (relating through refining the actions, -monotony and/or +persistence)
AGGRESSION (relating through freeing the actions, -belligerence and/or +dynamic)

Assimilation Mode
OBSERVATION (relating through observing and using most appropriate mode in context, -surveillance and/or +clarity)

I happen to be in observation mode this lifetime, and validating this helped me to understand my natural approach to life.  Though my observation does slide to reserve and passion (the assimilation overleaves can slide to any of the other overleafs in order to reach balance), I do so in order to come home to clarity, the positive pole of the observation mode.

The mode is the overleaf we all use in order to experience intimacy with each other.  It can help us to understand what it is that we are attracted to in others and what others tend to be attracted to in us.

11. Attitude
The attitude is connected to the intellectual center and our thoughts.  It represents our primary philosophy through which we see, interpret and understand life.  As such, it tends to be the “hub” of the personality.  Its healthy operation tends to be the key to experiencing life as enjoyable and fulfilling.

When the attitude is in the negative poles (emphasizing separation and exclusion), we will tend to be closed to new information and more prone to drawing conclusions based on half-truths.

When the attitude is in the positive poles (emphasizing oneness and inclusion), we will tend to be open to more information and more prone to a stance of continuously updating our truths in an effort to experience wholeness.

The 7 basic philosophies or attitudes are:

Inspiration Attitudes
STOIC (sees life as if it has seen it all before, -resignation and/or +tranquility)
SPIRITUALIST (sees life as if it is seeing it for the first time, -belief and/or verification)

Expression Attitudes
SKEPTIC (sees life as if it can always be disproved, -suspicion and/or +investigation)
IDEALIST (sees life as if it can always be improved, -naivete and/or +coalescence)

Action Attitudes
CYNIC (sees life as the opposite of what it appears to be, -denigration and/or +contradiction)
REALIST (sees life as it appears to be, -subjective and/or +objective)

Assimilation Attitude
PRAGMATIST (sees life through a lens of practicality and uses most appropriate attitude in context, -dogma and/or +efficient)

I could easily validate that I am spiritualist in attitude, especially when I considered the negative pole of this attitude: belief or faith.  The negative pole of spiritualist usually shows up as gullibility and an eagerness to believe what is said to be true without questioning or testing.  I could definitely relate to this in my younger years.

But more than that, I could relate to the spiritualist lens of POTENTIAL and POSSIBILITY.  The motto for the spiritualist might be “Anything is possible!”  And we include in our philosophy the seen and unseen.  The intangible is just as real as the tangible.

In many ways, attitude IS everything.  One distorted perspective or interpretation of reality can cause us to be lost in a dream of our own making.  And until we begin to wake up, most of the dreams we create are nightmares.

Validating your attitude can help you to understand your personal pathway back to to wholeness when you have lost your way.

12. Centering and Part of Center
“Center” refers to a “center of gravity.”  As personality, we have 7 centers available to us, however, only 3 of those centers tend to be the ones we use habitually to help us navigate the world around us.  Those 3 centers are the moving, emotional and intellectual centers.

Early in our development (between birth and our 2nd birthday), we choose one of these centers as our home-base for taking in and navigating the world around us.

Each center also has a “part” of center that connects to all other centers.

We “take in” life through our primary centering and “put it back out” through the part.

For example, I am moving-centered with an intellectual part.  I take in life through my body and through movement and action.  Then, I make sense of my bodily sensations, movements, actions and environment with my intellect and attempt to communicate what I have learned.  Another way of understanding this is that in my younger years, I had a tendency to act first and think later.

In my case, the emotional center had been the neglected center for much of my life.  In order to move beyond the trap of doing and thinking/thinking and doing, I had to learn to incorporate my emotional center (love and nurturing) into my consciousness.

This balancing of the “lower” centers is essential to be able to have more access to the “higher” centers and by extension, essence.

In this teaching, the 7 centers of gravity are NOT the same as the 7 chakras, although they do relate to them.

Here are the 7 centers with their corresponding chakras (from head/crown to root/feet):

Higher Intellectual Center (Crown/7) ~ TRUTH

Higher Emotional Center (3rd-Eye/6) ~ LOVE

Intellectual Center (Throat/5) ~ THOUGHTS

Emotional Center (Heart/4) ~ EMOTIONS

Moving Center (Solar Plexus/3) ~ BODY/MOVEMENT/ACTION

Higher Moving Center (Sacral/2) ~ ENERGY/BEAUTY

Instinctive Center (Root/1) ~ FEAR (fight/flight)/CHOICE

Whereas the lower centers lie within the realm of personality (body, emotions and thought), the higher centers lie within the realm of essence (energy, love and truth, respectively).

When our lower centers are balanced, we can access the higher centers for brief periods, but we cannot sustain our awareness in higher centers while in the body.  Those of us who are more spiritually inclined may try to live in these centers, but to do so misses the point of being physical.

Centering and part information is very helpful to validate because it gives you very practical tools for moving beyond your centering/part “trap” and into balance where your essence can be experienced.

13. Body-type
Your body is the most fundamental part of personality: the foundation.  Michael has said that the body-type, in a literal sense, is essence’s most basic and intimate idea of who it is while incarnated.  All of the other overleaves are expressed (harmoniously or with challenge) through the body-type.

The body-type is also a reflection of essence’s most basic karma.

The body-type information is drawn from the symbolism of the 7 sacred planets:

Inspiration Types
Lunar (Server) ~ Saturnine (Priest)

Expression Types
Mercury (Artisan) ~ Jupiter (Sage)

Action Types
Mars (Warrior) ~ Venus (King)

Assimilation Type
Solar (Scholar)

You will have a primary body-type, which would be your highest percentage of planetary influence.  Then, you would have a secondary influence.  Some have a tertiary influence, and some even have a very small quatenary influence.

The body-types also have their influence and affect in 3 different contexts:

Appearance

Nature (psychological or body-consciousness)

Health

Usually, the primary body-type (highest percentage) will have the greatest influence over appearance, but this is not always the case.

And there does tend to be some overlap between all of the body-types and 3 contexts.

The body-type information can be very useful in helping one to bring more consciousness to one’s basic health.

For example, my body-type map looks like this:

Primary/Appearance – Mercury (agile, flexible, medium build and restlessness throughout the bodies)

Secondary/Nature – Venus (focus on receptivity, pleasure, affection and finding common ground)

Tertiary/Health – Solar (thymus is highlighted, self-esteem and immunity)

Quatenary – *Uranian (supports higher perceptions, creativity, visualization, problem solving, etc.)

Validating my mercurial primary body-type has helped me to bring more consciousness to my inner restlessness, which I balance with daily meditation and other conscious relaxation techniques.

Validating my venusian secondary body-type has helped me to embrace my naturally warm and affectionate nature, along with the healthy benefits that come with treating myself to pleasurable massages, foods and company.

The biggest surprise for me, was validating my solar influence on health.  Whereas I used to get frequent colds that would last for weeks, they have become a thing of the past.  In general, my health and vitality are excellent, and I attribute this to the transformation in self-esteem that I have experienced over the course of the past 7 years.  Before learning to love myself unconditionally and learning to embrace my uniqueness, my self-esteem was very erratic and based on external validation.  My self-esteem is now based on internal validation, and I see a direct correlation between this state and my health.  Whenever I have a bought of self-doubt or self-criticism, I can literally feel my health slipping away.  So I have learned to quickly re-center and re-align with my inner self-esteem during these times.

*Uranus, Neptune and Pluto can be smaller influences in our body-type configurations, but they usually reflect extra-ordinary life-times and life-themes in some way.  I think the Uranus influence serves me quite well in my creativity, channeling and healing work.

This just about ends our initial exploration of the Michael Profile, but it would not be complete without a discussion of one last element of the profile: the chief negative features or obstacles.  The chief negative features are your primary stumbling blocks and obstacles to experiencing consciousness, true personality, essence and happiness/fulfillment.  Living without fear means learning how to make fear your friend.  This is the pathway to healing, manifesting your true essence and creating a life of meaning, purpose and fulfillment.  These fears/self-protective patterns are: self-deprecation, arrogance, self-destruction, greed, martyrdom, impatience and stubbornness.  I’ll go into more detail about each in Part IV.

Michael Profile: Essence Dynamics (Part II)

(approximate reading time 10-15mins)

I’d like to continue my discussion of the Michael Profile starting with the concept of soul age.

6. Soul Age/Level
Soul age refers to your soul’s evolution relative to its incarnation cycles in “Earth School” (Michael teaches that human sentience did not begin its first lifetimes in this solar system but in the Sirius system…but that’s a whole nuther’ story!).

The idea is that when sentience decides to incarnate within a certain species, it also agrees to undergo a kind of “amnesia” so that it can experience fully the illusion of being an individual physical being.  So the first incarnations are similar to the first few months of being an actual new-born.  It is a very primitive time where the soul is orienting itself to a completely new set of physical rules.  Learning how to survive and keep physical bodies alive is the main priority at this infant stage.

After as many incarnations as it takes to master survival on the physical plane, the soul then transitions to its baby cycle.  Now that it has learned how to survive, it can begin building more sophisticated structures for stability and community.  These incarnations are focused on structure, order and creating the beginnings of civilization.

The next evolutionary transition for the soul is into the young cycle.  This is like the soul in its adolescent years!  It tends to be the point in evolution when the soul is the most immersed in physical life, including the illusion of being separate from any creator and that sense of being “on its own.”  This cycle’s lessons are focused on individuality and personal accomplishment-taking the personality as far as it can go in terms of what it can create and accomplish for itself on the physical plane.  These lifetimes are focused on HAVING in a material sense.  The general perception at this stage is “There is me and there is you, and I am going to win!”  Much is accomplished during this cycle by “the powerful,” but it tends to be accomplished through exploitation of and at the expense of the “weaker” others.

*Apparently, we had had more young souls incarnating on Earth than any other soul age for the past few thousands of years.  This changed around 1987, when the scale tipped and we have since had more mature souls incarnating on the planet.

When the soul transitions into the mature cycle, there is a dramatic shift of gears, so to speak.  All of the soul ages previous to this had been about building a solid foundation for the physical being, the body and personality.  Life lessons reflected the soul’s desire to experience itself as individual and separate from tao, immersed in physicality.  In the mature cycle, the attention begins to turn inward, and the soul begins to ask (possibly for the very first time) “Who am I…and why am I here?”  The “search” begins at this stage and the focus shifts from individual personal accomplishment to right relationships.  True empathy and compassion are developed for the first time, and the soul’s perception becomes “There is me, and there is you, and I feel your pain.”  The health of the community as a whole becomes more important than the individual’s ambitions.  The idea of RIGHTS and equality across the board begin to be explored and implemented.

The mature cycle is dramatic and intense, as the soul begins to open its perception to more.  With the increased sensitivity that comes from this psychic growth, life and relationships are experienced as very intense, with many “mental-breaks” happening at this stage and the need for quiet retreats away from all forms of “negativity.”

After relationships have been explored thoroughly and a level of empathy with one’s self and others mastered, the soul transitions to the old cycle.

The perception in the old cycle is “There is me, there is you, and there is our context.”  This cycle marks the end of the soul fragment’s evolution on the physical plane.  At the end of the cycle, the soul “cycles off” the physical plane and remains on the astral plane until the rest of its entity-mates finish their round of incarnations on the physical plane.  Old souls are much like elderly people in the sense that they are done with the intense outer physical activity and accomplishments of youth and are now focused on inner matters, truth and resolving philosophical conundrums.  More than any other soul age, the old soul perceives the TRUTH and is intensely working on embodying Agape on the physical plane: unconditional acceptance of self, others and life itself.  This cycle is intense in the sense that the old soul is becoming increasingly aware of the vastness of itself as a part of tao, while at the same time needing to care for a body and manage to continue participating in the world.  The personalities of old souls can feel quite “world weary” and long to rest.  Yet, there is still more to go.  All old souls are seeking reunion with their entity-mates and with other souls with whom they have had much shared experience over the course of their incarnations.  This drawing together prepares the essences for the “reunion” that happens on the astral plane which takes place before the next step in evolution.

There are two soul ages beyond the old cycle that Michael has named Transcendental and Infinite.

The Transcendental Soul is the incarnation of a reunited entity that has evolved to the causal plane.  One fragment incarnates into the lifetime and has access to the entire entity’s experience and wisdom for navigation and creation of the lifetime.  These souls incarnate to facilitate social change and transformation (Ghandi, for example).

The Infinite Soul is a representative of the tao itself.  A reunited cadre or cadres serve to “channel” a specific aspect of the tao (truth, love or energy) through a representative fragment to the Earth, in order to catalyze a spiritual transformation in the totality of sentience.  It is like an intervention of sorts (Jesus or Buddha, for example).

Here are the soul ages again:

Infant – survival focus

Baby – structure and order focus

Young – individuality and personal accomplishment focus

Mature – empathy and right relationship focus

Old – truth and context (spirituality) focus

*Transcendental – social change

*Infinite – spiritual transformation/intervention

Michael has said that their teaching is an old soul teaching.  The majority of their students are old and mature souls.  You may even get the occasional late-level young soul who is interested in the teachings, but this is rare.

So, if you are interested in this teaching, more than likely, you are in the mature or old cycle of soul age.

The levels within the soul age describe where your essence is in the integration process of your soul age perspective and experience.  There are 7 levels within each soul age:

1 – beginning to “dip your toe in” the new soul age perspective

2 – balancing between the previous soul age and the new soul age perspective

3 – completely immersed in the new soul age perspective

4 – confidently expressing the current soul age perspective in the world

5 – expanding upon the current soul age perspective

6 – fully integrating experiences of the current soul age and “tying up lose ends”

7 – mastery and teaching of the current soul age perspective and preparation to transition into the next soul age

The soul age level can give great insight into more specific themes and lessons you may encounter in your life, as a part of your soul’s current evolutionary focus.

Before these teachings, I had never thought much about this concept of soul age.  I simply thought that I was a very strange and eccentric person for seeing the world as I did and having the philosophical and healing interests that I had.  I often wondered how I could ever learn to survive in such a seemingly calloused and cold society that viewed and valued life so differently than me.  It did not take much study of the teachings to validate my old soul-ness.  This was a key for me that helped to unlock much understanding and compassion for myself and the world around me.  And in fact, my soul age level is one where compassion is emphasized as a part of my learning “curriculum.”

I am a 6th-level old soul.

Which brings me to speak about how this concept of soul age can and has been abused by students of the teachings.

No matter what your soul age, it does not define who you are, how superior or inferior you are or how wise you are.

Old souls can behave ignorantly and obnoxiously.  Younger souls can exemplify calm and wisdom.  It is all relative.

Soul age simply refers to how much experience your soul has in relation to its incarnations as a human being.  And everyone’s experiences are different.  Though there are subjects that we all study and master in Earth School, we all study them at our own unique pace and in our own unique ways.  And we all study some areas in which others will not gain much experience.  It is all relative, and there is no external standard for study being imposed on us.  We evaluate and grade ourselves!  There are no rewards for “finishing first” or punishments for “finishing last.”  And someone who is “older” (progressed further along in their soul age perspective) is not better than someone who is “younger.”  All of us have lessons that we have learned and wisdom to share.  Every soul age has its potential weaknesses and strengths in perspective.

Being an older soul (mid-mature through 7th-level old) means that you have more relative experience under your belt than someone younger in soul age, but it does not guarantee that you will manifest your true soul age or behave wisely.

7. Manifested Soul Age
Just like the manifestation of your role is not a given, neither is the manifestation of your technical soul age.  Each lifetime we start over and begin with an infant soul consciousness and then have to grow and evolve to the perspective of our technical soul age and level.  In some lifetimes this happens, and in some lifetimes it doesn’t.  Also, each soul age perspective is built off of the one that comes before.  So, if you are an old soul, and have reached and manifested your technical soul age, then in any given moment, you can also manifest the soul ages that came before: infant, baby, young and mature.  In fact, you may manifest old in one part of your life, while manifesting young and mature in other parts of your life.  The older you are, the more flexibility you have in your perspectives and behaviors.

When you get your profile, some channels will give you this information about where you tend to sustain your manifestation of soul age perspective.

I am an old soul who manifests mature and old, depending on the context.

8. Essence Twin Role
Your essence twin is an essence that is committed to sharing all physical plane experiences with you.  The twin is also committed to helping you work through your internal “blocks” that prevent you from focusing on life-tasks and enjoying your life.  You are very close mirrors to each other, constantly triggering each other to look at what is most loved and hated within so that healing and growth can take place.  This relationship is by nature INTENSE.

You can spend up to 75% of your incarnations closely linked with your essence twin in various types of relationships.  You also act as guide to each other when the other is not incarnating.

Due to the close resonance and great library of experiences that you usually share with your essence twin, you can tend to take on some of their role qualities.  Sometimes, you may even think you are the role that is actually your essence twin’s role.  This is especially the case when you are incarnate, and you twin is discarnate and acting as your guide.

Because you have come to know your twin’s role so well and have access to those qualities so easily, channels will often give you the role of your essence twin.

This can also help you to identify your essence twin, which when validated, can support accelerated inner growth.

My essence twin is Server in essence.  He is currently incarnated along with me, and we have met.  That will be another blog for another time!

In Part III, I will move into the Personality Dynamics of the Michael Profile.  Validating this information about your personality can be just as empowering as validating your essence dynamics.  Some spiritual-minded folk want to “get rid of” ego/personality and tend to dismiss its importance in the grand scheme of things.  But personality is the only way essence can experience the physical plane!  Essence needs personality.  More on this to follow.

Michael Profile: Essence Dynamics (Part I)

(approximate reading time 10-15mins)

The Michael Profile is usually the starting point for students new to the teachings.  This profile gives information about the design and dynamics of the student’s soul essence and personality.  It is a smaller life-map located within the larger life-map that is the Michael Teachings.

The information given in your Michael Profile is meant to be used as a set of tools to help you navigate the terrain of your life with more trust, kindness, confidence and pleasure.  However, like with any map, you can do with the information what you will.  You can ignore it, study it once and then toss it, take it with you and consult it at various points along your journey or any other number of choices.

One thing to be said about the information given in a Michael Profile (before I launch into discussing each piece of the profile) is that there is no authority within the Michael Teachings who can tell you with 100% clarity and confidence that the information you receive about yourself is correct.  Any information you receive from any channel has to be self-validated, and this process is unique to all of us.  For some, the very first profile they receive hits the mark of their self-awareness, and they are able to use this profile for navigation for the rest of their lifetime of study with Michael.  For others, the process is not so concise but takes several profiles and many months or years to get the information that “clicks” and helps them to make great leaps in their self-understanding.

Ok, let’s dive-in!

ESSENCE DYNAMICS

I have come across no other teaching or philosophy that so clearly and simply maps-out the design possibilities of the soul essence and in such a way that the information can actually be validated and used in a practical way to assist you on your journey toward increased self-awareness and self-realization.

When I came across these teachings, I was already an astrologer and had plenty of insightful and accurate information about my design as a personality.  But I always longed for more…something deeper and broader…more precise information about the core of who I am-not just insights about the ego and personality but information about the soul essence within the personality.

This is where the Michael Profile shines because it begins with the particulars of your soul essence-the animating force behind the body/personality and the lifetime.

1. Role (in essence)
The role is Michael’s way of describing what type of soul your essence decided to be before you began incarnating.  It is your “soul personality,” so to speak.  It is who you are at the core energetic level of your being and therefore represents your deepest desires, drives and motivations.  When this essence is accepted and “manifested” into the world around you, you “shine” and feel a sense of wholeness and fulfillment.

Through their observations and studies, Michael has seen that there are 7 distinct soul types:

2 are inspiration types – Server and Priest

2 are expression types – Artisan and Sage

2 are action types – Warrior and King

And 1 is a neutral and an assimilation type – Scholar

Validating your role in essence can be quite the healing and liberating experience.  It certainly was for me, as I had not been fully accepting of my essence traits before I began to study with Michael.  Due to family and cultural conditioning, I had learned to reject and hate a part of myself that was actually the deepest part of me that longed for expression and fulfillment.

When it came time for me to study the roles and to try to discern which role was at my core, I completely overlooked my actual role.  It took me 3 Michael Profiles to be able to validate my true role, the one Michael says is recorded in the akashic records.

But when I did, so much of my life made sense, and I began to let myself shine more in ways that were natural to me.  For most of my life, I have felt a strong urgency to express myself, to be seen, heard and understood.  No matter how old I was, there was always this silly and irreverent yet awe-filled inner child that wanted to understand the deeper truths of life and share them with others.  How healing it was to learn about the negative (obnoxiousness and verbosity!) and the positive sides (insight and communication) of my role and to learn that my role is just as valid and useful as the other 6 roles.

This information helped me to embrace, be and express more of myself without shame.

Today, I am happy to say that I am one of the insightful “children” of the universe, one of the entertaining and at times irreverent storytellers who adds fun and drama to life.

I am Sage in essence.

2. Casting
Your primary casting position describes how you function on a day-to-day basis.  Whereas the role is who you are when you “shine” (and we often have to work at this to re-claim and own who we are at our core) your casting is who you are the rest of the time.  It is your default way of being.  We don’t have to work at expressing and manifesting our casting.  It is just who we are without even trying.

In your Michael Profile, you are most often given the primary casting number, which tends to have the most direct influence on how you show up in the lifetime.  But there are also secondary and tertiary casting numbers that have more subtle influences during your lifetime.  I won’t go into those other influences now, but I will say that all of these numbers and influences have to do with how your particular soul essence expresses itself in relation to other soul essences within your tight-knit spiritual family of about 1000 soul fragments and beyond.

Michael says that the structure of the universe can be understood through the concepts of math and music.  Therefore, everything used as a map in their teaching can be referenced by its numerical resonance.

As there are 7 roles, there are also 7 casting positions.  Your casting position can be understood through its number, as well as the corresponding “soul archetype” related to it:

1 (simplicity/purpose) – Server

2 (balance/stability) – Artisan

3 (versatility/enterprising) – Warrior

4 (achievement/consolidation) – Scholar

5 (adventure/expansion) – Sage

6 (connection/harmony) – Priest

7 (eclectic/inculcation) – King

Your casting influences can be so pervasive and easy to spot in your behavior and life-patterns that you may think your casting position is actually your role.

My primary casting position within my spiritual family or “entity” is 6/Priest.  When I began studying these teachings, I thought my role was Priest.  The Priest energy is related to inspiration and the desire to guide others into unfolding more of their inherent potential.  It is also expressed through compassion on the positive side and zealousness and righteousness on the negative side.

My whole life I had been told that I would be an actual priest in the Southern Baptist tradition.  And from an early age, one of the ways I defined myself was through my understanding of and my ability to express compassion towards others.  And yes, I could be righteous and bossy at times towards others, thinking I knew what was best for them!

Even though validating my casting position was not as big a revelation as validating my role, it still gave me a depth of insight into how I do my role that also helped me in my self-awareness and confidence.

The casting information has helped me to own how I operate on a daily basis as one who needs to feel inspired and to inspire and as one who needs to understand the deeper patterns of life in an effort to extend compassion to myself and others.

One could say that in my better moments, I am an inspired (priest) and compassionate (priest) communicator (sage)!

3. Cadre/Entity (spiritual family)
In this teaching, the terms “cadre” and “entity” refer to groupings and structures of essences that have very specific relationships and resonances due to their relative numerical position, as well as their various shared interests.

1 entity = approximately 1000 soul fragments or essences

1 cadre = 7 entities

1 energy ring = 12 cadres

And this goes on and on and on.  You get the picture!

Michael says that most of their teaching agreements are with those fragments/essences in cadres 1, 2 and 3 of a particular energy ring that “follows” their energy ring.  So, chances are, if you are seeking information from Michael through one of their channels, then you are most likely going to get a 1, 2 or 3 as your cadre number on your Michael profile.  And as there are only 7 entities within a cadre, your entity number will be 1 through 7.

All of the entities have specific “energy signatures” that are generated due to the number resonances (1-7) related to their position within the cadre, as well as the types of essences (roles) that make up the entity.  Essences within an entity will share basic life-themes and interests.

For example, I am in cadre 1, entity 7, which has come to be known among Michael students as “the sweetheart entity.”  It is made up mostly of servers and priests.  All of the fragments of this entity are exploring healing from self-healing to collective healing.

Validating my cadre and entity was fairly easy, as two channels gave me the same cadre/entity information in two different Michael Profiles.  Also, when I asked Michael for information that described this entity and how they manifest on Earth, I resonated with all of the information that was given.  Not only that, but I have met a few other members said to be of this entity, and in every case there has been a certain level of ease and familiarity in our interactions along with a distinct aura of mutual acceptance.

However, this can be one of the hardest pieces of information in the Michael Profile for the channel to translate and deliver accurately.  It can also be one of the hardest pieces of information for the student to validate.

Cadre/entity may not be the most critical piece of information for you to validate on your journey of self-awareness and self-realization, but it can be beneficial information that helps you to know and trust yourself a bit more and to feel more comfortable in your own skin.

As an old soul, it can help you on your journey of reunion with the members of your entity, as this is one of the deep desires for the old soul.

4. Energy Ratio (focused versus creative)
Our essences have their own unique ratio of focused (or male) to creative (or female) energy.  Focused energy is linear, orderly, active, protective, concrete, forceful, strategic.  Creative energy is non-linear, chaotic, passive, inspirational, intuitive, abstract, fluid, spiraling.  Though we can use the terms male and female to help us understand this ratio, essence does not actually have gender in the way we use the terms.  So, I prefer the more gender neutral terms of focused and creative.

Those who have high focused energy (65 or above), no matter what their role and casting, may find that they are more active (doing), linear and strategic with the way they go about their days.  They may also have the need for more sex than the average person.  Those who have high creative energy (65 or above), no matter what their role and casting, may find that they are more passive (being), non-linear and intuitive with the way they go about their days.  And those who have ratios that are closer to 50/50, may find that they go about their days with more of a balance between doing more focused and being more creative.

It is not necessarily important to validate the exact ratio (and rather impossible to do so, anyway!).  It is more important to know whether you are high on the focused or creative side or more balanced.  This can help you to embrace your natural strengths and to invite support from others in order to bring balance where you are weak.

For my energy ratio, I received 20 focused / 80 creative.  I’d say this is quite accurate in terms of how I have experienced myself over the years.  I can be quite focused and active for short bursts of time, but staying in this mode is very taxing and stressful for me, as this is not my strength.  “Being” is home-base for me.

5. Frequency
Frequency is a scale of measurement for our entire human sentience on a scale of 0-100 (0 being lowest and 100 being highest).  It describes the rate at which your individual essence processes and comprehends experience.  Another way of looking at it is to see the frequency as your essence’s “vibrational stamp.”

Low frequency essences (35 or below) tend to feel more “solid” and grounded to others.  They tend to work through their lives and learn their lessons at a slower pace, sometimes getting “stuck” in their lessons.  But when they learn the lesson, they have learned it completely and never have to go back to that particular lesson.  They can seem more serious and “heavy” during their lifetimes.

High frequency essences (65 and above) tend to feel more “fluid” and ethereal to others.  They tend to work through their lives and learn their lessons at a faster pace, skimming the surface of lessons and then have to go back over the same lesson multiple times in order to get through all the layers of the lesson.  They can seem more carefree and “buoyant” during their lifetimes.

Those essences whose frequency is more toward the middle of the spectrum tend to have more flexibility in how they process experiences.  They can sometimes wring-out an experience for all its worth and sometimes skim the surface coming back to the lesson multiple times before completion and comprehension.

As with the energy ratio, it is not necessary to validate the frequency exactly but to know where you are on the spectrum from low to mid-level to high in a general sense.

Before I received any profiles, I knew I was a high frequency essence.  88 seems to be about right.

In Part II, I will go into one of the most misunderstood and controversial elements of the Michael Profile: soul age. I will also speak about the Essence Twin (“twin flame”), as many channels will give you the essence twin role information as a part of your own essence dynamics.
